Allen Louise Simpson September 2, 1930 - July 1, 2013

Allen Louis Simpson, 82, of Oklahoma City, passed away on July 1, 2013.
Allen was born at the family home on the Saline river, north of Hays, Kansas, on Sept. 2, 1930,to Clarence Edwin Simpson and Emma Anna (Riesen) Simpson. His step mother was Verda Ester (Overholser/Teasley) Simpson. He graduated from high school in Plainville, Kansas, in 1948.
Allen was married to Jo Ann Gibbany on Feb. 13, 1949, in Manhattan, Kansas. They were married 64 years.
Allen is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Simpson; brother Stanley Eugene Simpson; three children: David Allen Simpson & wife Sherri, Vance Brian Simpson & wife Nancy, and Deborah Ann Spaulding & husband Kenneth; five grandchildren: Melissa Ann Wilson & husband Greg, Ivan Jeffrey Simpson, Nathan Wakan Simpson and wife Alicia, Daniel Joseph Spaulding and Cynda Jeree Spaulding; and five great grandchildren: Riley Brennan Wilson, Kody Kaelen Wilson, Blake Allen Simpson, Madison Cathleen Simpson, and Adynn Ann Simpson
Allen was preceded in death by his brothers: Edwin Keith Simpson, & Herbert Alfred Simpson; step-brother: Elwin R Teasley; and step-sister: Orma Nadine Teasley
Allen started as a roustabout in the Bemis field near Plainville, Kansas in the late1940. In 1951 he went to work for Stanolind Oil & Gas Co., which later became the Pan American Petroleum Co. The production from the Bemis Field was one reason that Kansas ranked fifth in the nation in oil production in 1957. He and his wife Jo Ann built a house in Plainville with the help of a carpenter he hired. In 1962 he was transferred to Ellinwood, Kansas, to work in the office. He was transferred again in 1963 to Oklahoma City to work for Amoco.
He and Jo Ann bought the Carlyle Motel on Route 66 in Oklahoma City in 1963 and successfully operated it for 30 years. Allen was president of the Oklahoma Motel Association in 1970.
After retiring in 1994, Allen enjoyed traveling with Jo Ann, visiting his grandchildren, playing golf and his schnauzers, Schatzie and Freckles.

The funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, July 5, at New Covenant Christian Church, 12000 N. Rockwell Avenue, Oklahoma City. Visitation hours will be 1 – 8 pm on Wednesday, July 3, and 1 – 5 pm on Thursday, July 4, at Buchanan Funeral Services, 8712 N. Council Road, Oklahoma City. The family will be present 5 – 7 pm Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for cancer research, Hospice of Oklahoma County, or Habitat for Humanity.
