Alton Flinchum passed away from complications from a fall. He was 88. Alton is survived by his loving wife, Betty, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, his children – Matthew, Carolyn, Marilyn (Mike North), his beloved granddaughter Naomi (Daniela Marquez), and two great grandchildren – Noah and Maya.

A Veteran of the Korean War, following his service in the U.S. Army, Alton returned to Texas and rejoined Phillips Petroleum Company where he had a successful career for 44 years. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for a number of years. In 1973 his employment took the family from the Panhandle of Texas to Stavanger, Norway where they lived for 12 years and had many wonderful adventures.  He worked in the development of the Ekofisk oilfield in the North Sea. In 1985 Alton and Betty moved to Oklahoma, most recently residing in Edmond.

Alton was known as a quiet, generous and loving family man. He was active in his church serving as an Elder, teaching Bible Class and as a song leader. He was most proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchild.  He enjoyed family gatherings, country music, going to the lake with his boat, playing the guitar and mandolin, his pets and grand-dogs, being outdoors in Red River, NM and  traveling to see his children and relatives.  He was known as “Honey” – the name his granddaughter gave him when she was a toddler.

Alton battled Alzheimer’s for a number of years but maintained an independent and friendly spirit.  We are thankful for a life well-lived and the blessings he brought to this world.

Due to restrictions as a result of the Pandemic, the family will have a private memorial service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/goto/Alton_Flinchum
