Alvin Louis Dennard, Jr. (Louis), was born in Sugden, Oklahoma on February 17, 1936 to Alvin Louis Dennard, Sr. and Elisabeth Pearl (Bates) Dennard. On May 27, 2014, with his family by his side, Louis went to be with his Heavenly Father. Louis is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lou; son Alan and wife Carman, grandsons Alex and Garrett of Rockwall, Texas, granddaughter Stephanie and husband Wade Stephens, great grandsons Ryan, Kyle, and Tyler of Cabot, Arkansas; son Michael and wife Rene' and granddaughter Ashley and husband Jazton Sale, grandson Mitchell of Mustang; and daughter Lynne and husband Glen Simpson, granddaughters Katelyn and Addison Simpson of Edmond, Oklahoma. Louis is also survived by his sister, Pearl Wilkerson of Buffalo, Oklahoma, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
Louis attended elementary school in Tuttle, Oklahoma. He attended high school in Ryan and Clinton, Oklahoma, where he was very active in sports (football, baseball, and tennis), debate, and drama. He attended Southwest Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Louis joined the 95th Division of the United States Army Reserve in Clinton, Oklahoma, as Infantry Operations and Intelligence Specialist. He faithfully served in Clinton, Oklahoma and also served in Ballation Training in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1964.
Louis's early career included the Clinton Daily News, U.S. Post Office, and T. G. & Y. Stores Company. From 1964 – 1978, he worked at Rockwell International in Bethany, Oklahoma, serving in several positions including Human Resources and Safety. In 1978 he joined Standard Oil of Ohio as Safety Manager in Oklahoma City and transferred with Standard Oil of Ohio (SOHIO) to Dallas in 1982, where he served as Human Resource Manager of the Mid-Continent Division. He retired from BP America, Houston, in 1987.
Services for Louis will be at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, May 31, at 2 p.m., followed by Interment at Bethany Cemetery. Viewing will be at Buchanan Funeral Service, 8712 N. Council Road, OKC, 405-722-5262 on Friday, May 30, from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., with family visitation and viewing Friday, May 30, from 6 – 8 p.m.
