Barbara L., age 82, of OKC died March 16, 2012. She was born December 2, 1929, in St. Joseph, MO to William F. Borkowski and Alice (Maugh) Borkowski, both deceased. Barbara graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart, St. Joseph, in 1947. She commenced her musical career on the piano at age 7 and continued her studies on piano, organ, cello & guitar until 1960. She worked for Eshelmann Music House, St. Joseph, as head of the sheet music depart department for 8 years. In 1958 Barbara commended work in the Agricultural Investment Dept. of Metropolitan Life Ins. Co in St. Joseph. This Branch Office relocated to Manhattan, KS in 1964 and then in 1977 moved to Oklahoma City where Barbara remained as Office Supervisor until her retirement in 1994. Barbara was a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital for many years and also spent much time in various volunteer activities at her church throughout out her life. She is survived by her closest cousin, Doris Borkowski Rea and her husband Larry and 4 children, Mary Stoll, Robert Rea, John Rea and Sharon Mendez and their families; also cousin, Sheryl Edmondson and her two daughters and many other paternal and maternal cousins. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Deaconess Hospital, Crossroads Hospice and Windsor Hills Nursing Center for their care and comfort shown in taking care of Barbara. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Cancer Society. Visitation will be Sunday, March 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 PM at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel.Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Monday, March 19, at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church with burial at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO.
