Bernice Martin August 2, 1937 - June 5, 2023

Bernice Wagner Martin, 85, of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away on June 5th after a brave battle with dementia.

Bernice was born on August 2, 1937 to Michael and Viola Wagner in Enid, OK. After graduating from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1955, she went on to study Nursing at St. Anthony School of Nursing in Oklahoma City, OK, where she graduated as a RN. Bernice worked at St. Francis Hospital in Enid, OK and Oklahoma Allergy Clinic, St. Anthony and Deaconess Hospitals in Oklahoma City. She also worked at Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem weight clinics.

In 1957, she met John Martin and they wed in 1959, going on to have four children, Karen, Shelley, Burke and Jennifer.

Faith, family and hospitality were Bernice’s passions. She was very devoted to her faith and was involved in many aspects of her church. In 2001 Bernice was awarded the Women of Achievement Award at St. Charles Catholic Church. Family was also very important to her. Parents, siblings, children and grandchildren were always a priority and she loved being with them all. Many people have shared how they felt so welcomed in her home, she made everyone feel special with her hospitality.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings and daughter Jennifer Wagner Martin. She is survived by her husband, John Martin; her three children, Karen Bayliss (Bob Bayliss), Shelley Bartlett (Shayne Bartlett) and Burke Martin (Cindy Martin); her seven grandchildren, Rachel, Bob (Caitlin), Matthew, Jack, Gabe, Madeline and Sarah; and one great grandson, Jace.

Wake services will be held Buchanan Funeral Home, 8712 N Council Rd. Oklahoma City, OK 73132 at 6:00pm, Sunday, June 11th. Funeral services will be held at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 7801 Northwest Expy, Oklahoma City, OK 73132 on June 12, 2023 at 10:30am.
