Carl Henry Wessel of Edmond, OK passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023. He was born on January 13,1941 to Doris F. (Eades) Wessel and Henry T. Wessel in Oklahoma City, OK. Carl received his associate degree in science from Murray University, Tishomingo, OK in May of 1961. He acquired specialized training at OU Medical Center and received national certification as Cytotechnologist, screening for cancer. He married Charrel Ann Lambert on June 2, 1962. The couple lived in Topeka, KS for 3 plus years where their son, Craig, was born in 1965. They moved to Enid in 1966. In Enid, Carl worked full-time at a pathology lab, and he and Charrel were heavily involved with the youth group at Garriott Road Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder. They moved to Duncan in 1996 and he semi-retired, working as a school bus driver for the area schools. He was an Elder at Chisolm Trail Church of Christ where among other activities, he was part of several medical mission trips to Nicaragua, worked at the church’s Compassion Health Clinic, Celebrate Recovery and the prison ministry. He was an avid runner and enjoyed working in the yard and was a huge fan of OU.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and both sets of grandparents, sister Peggy Howard and nephew Rickey Lewis. Carl is survived by his wife, Charrel; son, Craig E. Wessel, and his wife Debbie; grandson, Evan Wessel; granddaughter, Adyson Engle (Wessel) and her husband, Kasey; Half-sister Linda Morgan and husband Howard; nephew, Garry Don Goodlett, and his son Jacob; niece, April Lewis; niece, Jackie Ann Williams, and husband Jesse; numerous cousins and their families. Visitation begins at 1pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Buchanan Funeral Service with services at 2pm. Burial will follow at Spring Creek Cemetery.
