Darrell Wayne Chabino, age 83, of Oklahoma City, passed away late Tuesday evening, July 19, 2022, in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Chabino was born on April 13, 1939, in Woodward, Oklahoma to Clayton S. and Verle (Edwards) Chabino. Graduating from Woodward High School in 1958, Darrell met the love of his life, Marynel Ethridge, at the Woodward Church of Christ in December 1956. They were married, and spent the next sixty-three wonderful years together before his death. They were blessed with two children, Darra and Danny. In January of 1960, they moved to Oklahoma City where Darrell worked for Wilson and Company and Carnation. He opened Sight ‘n Sound Appliance Center with his brother Delta in 1969, with more than twenty locations in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Selling the business in August of 2002, Darrell entered the real estate business, and continued until his death. Darrell was also a proud member of the Oklahoma National Guard where he served seven and one-half years in the 45th Infantry, with an honorable discharge on March 24, 1960.
Darrell served on several boards of directors including the Oklahoma Department of Consumer Credit, the State Fair of Oklahoma, and Board of Development for Oklahoma Christian. OC always held a special place in Darrell’s heart, and in 2021 he and Marynel were honored with a special pavilion, Chabino Place, located on campus by the pond on the Eagle Trail. He also was an active member of the Oklahoma Republican party.
An abiding love of God, church, and his immediate and extended family played a dominant role in his life. He enjoyed many wonderful times with his family at one of his favorite places, their lake home on Texoma. He enjoyed hobbies of fishing and classic cars, and Sight ‘n Sound which was more than just a business to Darrell. He and Marynel also traveled to many domestic and world locales.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Verle Chabino; one brother, Delta Gene Chabino, and his father and mother-in-law, Theo and Virgie Ethridge. A longtime member of the Church of Christ, Darrell is survived by his wife, Marynel, of the home; two children, Darra Green and husband David of Oklahoma City, and Daniel Chabino and wife Sherri of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Drake Green and wife Ashley, Dustee Green, Darbee Green, Darsee Green, Daniel Austin Chabino and Dylan Chabino; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Green and Dawson Green; one sister, Darla Wyatt and husband David; two sisters-in-law, Karen Hinz and husband Joe, and Judy Wheeler and husband Dale, along with many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A special thank you from the family to Harbor Chase and Traditions Hospice for the excellent care they provided, and to Darrell’s very special caregiver and friend, Kevin McFarland.
