David Ross Benton, affectionately known as “Dave”, “Dad”, “Papa”, “G-Pa” rejoiced and eagerly entered the pearly gates of heaven Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 3:21pm at his home surrounded by many members of his loving family.
He was born June 24th, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa to Lawrence and Ruth Benton and was raised in Alan, Nebraska and Carnation, Washington.
He married his sweetheart September 19th, 1958. Dave served as a Civil Engineer for King County in Seattle, Washington. He raised his family in Duvall and Redmond, Washington.
In his spare time, he loved hunting; specifically bird hunting, horse riding, and played basketball until the age of 52 for the King County league.
In 2004,Dave and Joanne relocated to Oklahoma City to be near family at the insistence and assistance of his brother in law Bob Funk. Dave stated in his last days that he was so grateful to Bob for all he has done for his family.
Dave ran his race and fulfilled his commitment to the Lord and his wife of 66 years to the day of his exit from his earthly home to, Joanne Marie Funk Benton.
He leaves behind his daughter Terri Weldon, husband Darrel, their children Zach and Kelly, their daughter Ella; and son Jeremy Weldon. Daughter Jodi Strum, husband Kevin; their children Trent Strum, wife Ivonne their daughter Hadley; and son Travis Strum. Son, Cory Benton and wife Bethany; their children Luke Benton, Preston Fansher, Julius Wilson, Davis Benton, Jayeden Fansher and Journey Benton.
He is also survived by his siblings; brother, Bert Benton, and wife Patti. His sister, Lois Pickering, and husband Earl.
In some of his last breaths and in a semiconscious state, Dave kissed his wife Joanne and said to her, “I love you”! As he did often during his last moments, he was praying to his heavenly Father and was heard saying “Praise Jesus, Praise Jesus”!!

Visitation for David will be held from 1:00-8:00PM on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Buchanan Funeral Service, 8712 N Council Rd. Oklahoma City, OK 73132. His Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Putnam City Baptist Church, 11401 N Rockwell Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73162.
