Elizabeth “Libby” Abbey Chippeaux, 35, passed away on October 21, 2024. She was born on March 30, 1989, in Olathe, Kansas and gave her life to Christ in February 1995. From the age of 5, Libby developed a deep love for the piano. This passion, alongside her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, grew into a lifelong devotion to worship and classical music. She spent her life dedicated to playing and teaching piano and violin. Libby was home-educated grades K through 12. She earned Bachelor of Arts in Music degrees in piano performance and violin performance, as well as a Master of Music in piano performance, all from Wichita State University. For the past 10 years, Libby resided in Winter Garden, Florida, where she maintained an active schedule of performing and teaching. Her students, ranging from elementary to high school, have earned numerous awards for their performances. Libby’s talents and diligence earned her honors from the Kansas Koch Cultural Trust, the Francis Ambrose Wallingford Piano Scholarship, the Samuel Ramey Professional Development Fund, and the Jacqueline Avent Scholarship. In 2011, she won the Wichita State University Symphony Orchestra Concerto-Aria Competition as well as the Sewanee Music Festival Concerto competition. As a former graduate teaching assistant at Wichita State University (WSU), Libby traveled to Russia and performed with the SUPRIMA Chamber Orchestra at the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory. She served as co-concertmaster for WSU Symphony Orchestra and also had the privilege to perform with Wichita Grand Opera, Sewanee Symphony Orchestra, MasterWorks Festival Orchestra, and Opera in the Ozarks Orchestra. Most recently, she
performed with Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Fort Myers Symphony Orchestra, Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, and Florida Rock Symphony. She was also the pianist at Church of the Good Shepherd in Maitland, Florida. Libby is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Donald Abbey, and paternal grandparents, Jewel and Regina Chippeaux.
She is survived by her maternal grandmother, Shirley Abbey of Wichita, Kansas, her loving parents, Mark and Diana Chippeaux of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, brother Joshua Chippeaux, his wife Jessica, and their children Alexander, Austin, and Asa of Wichita, Kansas, sisters Joanna Chippeaux and Suzanna Chippeaux of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, brother Jonathan Chippeaux of Wichita, Kansas, brother Benjamin Chippeaux of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
