Emil “Shorty” Lester Huber Jr. March 11, 1930 - July 9, 2024

Emil “Shorty” L. Huber, Jr passed away on July 9, 2024 at the age of 94. Shorty was born March 11,1930 to Pearl and Emil Huber from Galveston, TX. Preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Shorty was an ardent maroon-bleeding Texas Aggie, having graduated in the class of 1951. He also helped form the first Fish Drill Team, that is still active today. He was so thrilled to attend a football game (as he said “One last game”) this past year at Kyle Field.

Shorty served in the Army as a 1st Lt. in Army Security. While Shorty had several jobs after his time in the Army, he had 2 main careers. The first one was in Ft. Worth with a government agency that would later become known as HUD. He later took a job with HUD in Kansas City as the Assistant Regional Manager. Eventually he was promoted to Area Manager and was sent to Oklahoma City. He was honored with many accolades, one of these being an Honorary member of the Kiowa Tribe. He retired after 31years and started his 2nd career as a Real Estate Agent/Broker which he did for another 31 years. He loved helping people find homes, and he made many lifelong friends through this.

The most important thing in Shorty’s life was honoring God and serving his family. He was baptized in 1943 at the Galveston Church of Christ. He was an Elder of the Church in Ft. Worth, TX, Kansas City, MO and Oklahoma City. He definitely walked the walk and tried to show God’s love in all he did. Along these same lines, he believed in serving others, as was evident by his 50 plus years in the Kiwanis Club both in Kansas City and in OKC. Shorty remained active long into his 80’s by golfing, playing softball and snow skiing. He was so excited to reach the age of 70 so he could ski for free! He also was an avid painter and if you were one of the people he sold a home to, you might have received one of his paintings. One of his favorite things to do was camping, and he shared some wonderful times with the Matthews and Herron families camping all over the United States.

Survivors include Lola, his wife of 72 years, daughters Susan (Gregg) Whited of San Francisco, CA, Carol Scharrer, Lola (Ron) Maxwell of Oklahoma City, OK, sister Darline Richards of LaMarque, TX, brother Bill (Lesa) Huber of Fort Worth, TX, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, with many nieces and nephews.
