Gene Patterson Hatfield July 8, 1947 - August 7, 2014

Gene was born in OKC to Lonnie P. and Jeanne L. Hatfield. He passed away after a short battle with Mesotheloma. Gene grew up in the Mid-Del area and was a 12 year alumi of the Crooked Oak School System, graduating in 1965 where he played football, baseball and was on the National Honor Society. He was a 1969 graduate of Central State University with a degree in Business Adm. Gene was drafted into the US Army and served with the 1st Calvary Division and was stationed in Bun Hoh Vietnam from January 1970 to February 1971 and received many medals, including the bronze star. After the service, he went to work for his father in the family business Airflow, Inc. The business eventually killed both his father and himself from mesotheloma lung cancer. In 1994 Gene went to work for the US Postal Service, a job he truly loved especially delivering mail in Gallardia. Gene's family is so grateful to his postal family for all their love and support during this most difficult time. Gene was a member of Cherokee Hills Church of Christ and appreciated the love of his church family these past few months. He loved OU Football, Tennis and His Boys! Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dot Blythe, and 2 nieces, Shandre Hatfield and Neva Tara Roark. He leaves cherished memories with his wife Jan; father figure to son, Andrew Hatfield; grandfather figure to Isaiah and Noah Goomda ; brother, Lonnie Hatfield of Newcastle; niece, Shelby Hatfield of Choctaw; nephew, Nathan Blythe of OKC; step son, Jason DeCassias and family of PA; step daughters, Jill Desthusque, Lyn Keesce and family of OKC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna & Calvin Clark, Forsyth, MO., Shirley & Don Jones of Yukon; sister-in-law June Laib of OKC; his Crooked Oak family lead by Coach O. C. Hickman; special friend Babette Hatfield and his very special little friend, Jase. Services to celebrate his life will be 2:30 PM, Monday, August 11 at Buchanan Funeral Service with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
