Hanna LaRue Slaten Rodden March 18, 1933 - September 6, 2022

hanna

Hanna is our Mother, Granny, Aunt and friend. She was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on September 6, 2022. Hanna LaRue Slaten Rodden, age 89, passed into Heaven after ten days on home hospice and a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Hanna LaRue (Slaten) Rodden was born in Cooperton, Oklahoma on March 18, 1933 to Lee and Hilda (Drennan) Slaten. She grew up being loved and became a follower of Jesus Christ when she was 9 years old. Hanna enjoyed playing basketball and playing piano for churches where her Daddy pastored. She met William Herbert Rodden at his sister Betty’s wedding to Bill Whitehead in Rocky, OK. Herb and Hanna married on March 29, 1956. She worked at the Baptist Student Union at OSU while Herb completed his degree in Electrical Engineering. They moved to Dallas, TX to begin his career and their family.

Hanna served as a Camp Fire Girls leader, played Bridge regularly with friends and played piano for the children’s Sunday School Class. She loved being a wife and mother, and especially maintained a love for babies and the Bible. She worked in the church nursery for 17 years once her family was grown. She also thoroughly enjoyed studying and leading Precept Bible studies, both in Dallas and after they moved to Colorado Springs, CO. Intercessory prayer was her calling, and she prayed earnestly for the needs of others and the well-being of her family. Her walk with Jesus rooted her as storms of cancer (twice for her, once for her husband) rocked their world. She did not fear, but fully trusted that she was safe in God’s care.

Reading, discussing politics, working word search and jigsaw puzzles, coloring, playing through the hymnal on the piano, and traveling to Virginia to visit her daughter and family were great joys. Herb retired and they relocated to Oklahoma because the “people are so friendly here.” She enjoyed being involved in her granddaughters’ and great-grandchildren’s lives.

Hanna was preceded in death by her husband, Herb Rodden; her parents Lee and Hilda Slaten, her brothers Kenneth Hoyt Slaten and Wayland Keith Slaten. Hanna is survived by her daughters and their families; Janice and David Southerland, Kellie and Jonathan Vincent (with Jaclyn Olivia and Ethan Samuel), Amy Southerland; Beth and Greg Jones and their daughter, Anna Joy Jones.

Services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Buchanan Funeral Service, 8712 N. Council Road, Oklahoma City, OK. Burial will be at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7801 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK. Relatives and friends are welcome to visitation at Buchanan on Sunday, September 11 between 2-8pm with family present from 2-4pm.

Hanna’s family is so grateful for the care received through the staff at Good Shepherd Hospice.
