Harold Cloyd Thurman September 9, 1925 - July 13, 2021

Harold Cloyd Thurman, 95, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.  Harold was born on September 9, 1925 to Sanford and Effie Thurman in Ben Franklin, Texas. His family moved to Sayre, Oklahoma in 1928 where he grew up.  Harold attended Abilene Christian College where he majored in Bible.  While there he met and married Betty Jane Record in 1949. Harold and Betty had four children, Reginald, Shannon, Paul, and Barry.  He was a preacher for 50 years in various churches of Christ in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas until he retired at age 70. After retirement, Harold and Betty moved back to Sayre to take care of his father.  He served as an elder in Sayre for three years before moving to Oklahoma City, to be close to his children. Harold served as an elder at the North MacArthur church of Christ for a number of years until health caused him to resign.

Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time in Colorado at a family cabin.  Harold also enjoyed photography and was proud of his submissions to his college yearbook as well as the numerous family and vacation photos he took.

Harold was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother Morris Thurman, his wife Betty Thurman, and a grandson, Bret Thurman.  He is survived by his four children, Reginald Thurman of Arlington, Texas and wife Janelle, Shannon Crosley and husband Larry, Paul Thurman and wife Mary Dee, Barry Thurman and wife Pam – all of Oklahoma City, as well as  grandchildren: Gina Hopkins, Derek Thurman. Kevin Crosley, David Hamric, Julie Vincent, Marla Thurman, and Chelsea Thurman.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 20, 10:00 a.m. at the North MacArthur Church of Christ.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bear Valley Bible Institute in Denver, Colorado or the Tipton Children’s Home in Tipton, OK
