Herbert (Herb) Lewis Flegal, 90, of Oklahoma City, OK passed from this earthly life Sunday, April 15, 2018.
Herb was born February 13, 1928 in Enid, OK to Bruce and Venna (Ray) Flegal. He graduated from Enid High School in 1945, and immediately joined the US Navy as part of the Greatest Generation. Following his discharge, he attended Enid Business College and Phillips University before beginning a lifelong career with Phillips Petroleum Company based in Bartlesville, OK. During an almost 40 year career, Herb moved all over the United States, and held positions ranging from Accountant to Pipeline Engineer.
Preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Edward Smallwood, Herb is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Tommie, of the home in Oklahoma City, as well as their only child, daughter Julie Ellen Flegal-Smallwood, of Kingfisher County, OK. Through his son-in-law, he is also survived by two bonus grandsons, Aaron Smallwood and Andrew Smallwood, as well as five great-granddaughters. Herb is also survived by friends who are like family, including Pamela Sanders, Gary Henry, and Billy Pratt.
Herb was a member of the North MacArthur church of Christ, and was an active church member in multiple locations throughout the family’s travels. He was known for having “Sunday” and “Weekday” tape measures and pocket knives, and always having an extra handkerchief.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:30pm Wednesday, April 18. His memorial service will be at 2:00pm Thursday, April 19. Both events will be at Buchanan Funeral Services, 8712 N Council, Oklahoma City, OK 73132.
The family requests shared memories, and in lieu of flowers, contributions to the library at North MacArthur Church of Christ or the USO.
