Marion Holman was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on October 29, 1952, to Jack “Jackie” Lee Holman, Sr. and Billy Jo “Billie Joe” Lyles Holman. She passed away on January 20, 2025, after a long battle with dementia.
Marion attended Edwards Elementary School, then John F. Kennedy Junior High School. She went on to Douglass Senior High School, where she graduated in 1970. Marion was a twirler from 1967 to 1970, a Junior Varsity Cheerleader in the pep squad, a Girl Scout, and a youth leader at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
At the age of 12, Marion felt a calling to become Catholic. She knew this in her heart after meeting the Carmelite Nuns, who were evangelizing in the Carver Dale addition. With her parents’ support, she pursued this calling, and eventually, the entire family joined the Catholic faith at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. They later became members of Christ the King Catholic Church and then in 2020, Marion, Megan, and A.J. joined St. Eugene’s Catholic Church
After graduation, Marion attended the University of Central Oklahoma (formerly Central State) to pursue a degree in Business Administration. She later worked at Continental Plastic Company and then Control Data at Globe Life.
In the late 1980s, Marion began experiencing vision loss, but that did not stop her from living a life of faith and trust in God. She prayed her rosary daily and faithfully attended church as long as she was able. When she could no longer attend in person, Eucharistic ministers came to her home weekly to administer the Holy Sacraments and pray with her.
Marion loved to shop, spend time with her family, and enjoyed watching EWTN TV and listening to EWTN radio. She had a wide range of musical tastes, from old-school Motown to country music, and even listened to rap! She took great joy in raising her two children, Megan and David, and was especially excited when she became a grandmother. She fondly referred to her grandson, A.J., as her “Little Grandson.”
Marion resided with her daughter Megan and grandson A.J., where she was deeply loved by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack “Jackie” Lee Holman, Sr. and Billy Jo “Billie Joe” Lyles Holman; her son, David Woodard; her brothers, Jackie Lee Holman, Jr. (“Chuck”) and Pierre Holman; and her nieces, Ellen D. Holman and Jacolyn Holman.
She is survived by her daughter, Megan E. Woodard; her grandson, Anthony A. Woodard-Edwards; her sisters, Gilda J. Holman, Octavia Holman, Marilyn Holman, Lisa Krutz, and Kathy Holman; two nephews; one niece; three great-nephews; one great-niece; and a host of cousins, friends, and family.
Known by her family as “Mae Mae” and “MERN,” Marion Holman was a beautiful soul whom God blessed this earth with. She never let bad times get her down. On behalf of the entire family, we can safely say she will be greatly missed.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Elara Healthcare, Maureen Hoffman, St. Eugene’s Catholic Church, and Reverend Jim Goins and Reverend Jerome Krug, along with the staff of St. Eugene’s Catholic Church.
The visitation for Marion will take place from 1:00 – 8:00 PM, with family present to receive guests from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Buchanan Funeral Service, 8712 N Council Rd. Interment will follow directly after at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
