On March 14, 2022, Jesus Abraham Ibañez died unexpectedly in Norman, Oklahoma. He was only 21 years old.

Jesus Abraham was born on June 25, 2000, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the son of Jesus Ibañez and Marcela Montelongo-Ibañez. In addition to his parents, Jesus Abraham is survived by his brothers, Israel and Diego. He was the grandson of Francisco Ibañez and Socorro Rodriguez, and Miguel Montelongo and the late Maria del Carmen Hernandez. He is also survived by his college sweetheart, Sara Juarez, and by many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Jesus was the kindest most affectionate person, always embracing his parents and brothers in tenderly hugs and kisses. His profound love for his father and mother was expressed constantly in various ways. He was also always looking out for his younger brothers and made sure to give them the gift of his time and his undivided attention. He would never leave the house or end a conversation with them without saying “I love you.”

Though Jesus Abraham was baptized and raised Catholic, he felt a burning desire to become an intentional disciple of Christ during his adolescence. This prompted Jesus to become very active in his home parish, St. Joseph’s Old Cathedral in Downtown OKC, where he served as a volunteer in different ministries. He was a remarkable leader and a role model for other teens during his time in youth ministry. His passion for his faith and love for God inspired both young and old.

Jesus Abraham graduated from Putnam City West High School in 2018 and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma where he was expecting to graduate in May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He intended to use his education to help the poor and homeless by both assisting them directly and by changing the systems that enable poverty to persist. He always sought ways to advocate for the most vulnerable in his community.

Jesus enjoyed playing soccer, cross-country, and bowling. He also had lots of fun dancing (and made funny faces while doing so!).

Regardless of where Jesus went, his smile lighted up the room and his compassion would warm up the hearts of all who knew him. He will be missed tremendously by his family and friends.

With deep sorrow, but with hope in the Resurrection, we entrust our beloved son, brother, grandchild, godson, cousin, nephew, sweetheart, and friend into the loving hands of our Heavenly Father.

“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
