Jewel Maxine Herman February 28, 1928 - November 17, 2013

Our mom, Jewel, left this world on Nov. 17th, freed of her crippled earthly body, to be reunited with many family members and friends in Heaven. As a Christian and member of St. Luke's Methodist Church she was ready and eager to make this journey.

Mom was the only child of Wyatt Charles and Alma Carpenter Jolly. She was born in Temple, Tex., but grew up in Brownwood, Tex. It was here she married Kenneth Lafferty and gave birth to her children, Mike and Jan.

In 1960, the family moved to Ada, Okla., and Mom began working for the Ada Evening News as their proofreader. In 1969, she came to Oklahoma City, and worked until retirement for Southwestern Bell/ATT&T as a word processor. Of all her jobs, these were her favorites. She enjoyed her work, but even more, she loved her co-workers and they loved her. She formed many close friendships that lasted throughout the years.

But, mainly, Mom lived her life for her children. She loved being a mother to Mike Lafferty of Oklahoma City and Jan Lafferty Osborn and husband, Dave, of Yukon, Okla. She adored being a grandmother to Todd Moss, Chad Lafferty, Dave Osborn III and Julie Osborn Pierce. She was also blessed to get to see and enjoy her 11 great-grandchildren. She was never happier than when we were all together eating, laughing and being loud and crazy!

Our family would like to thank all the people at Forest Glade Retirement Center, Ranchwood Nursing Center and Crossroads Hospice who loved and cared for Mom over the last 13 years. Her life was enriched and made easier by each of you. There should be a special place in Heaven for people who choose to serve others in this way. You are truly a gift from God for the people whose lives you touch.

There will be no formal service for Mom. We will celebrate her life as a family and spread her ashes in special places as she had requested. We hope whenever you think of her it will bring up a happy memory and put a smile on your face. We know she is smiling, too.
