Jim Lange, 73, died unexpectedly Jan. 27, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
He was born Dec. 5, 1951, in OKC to Helen and Jim Lange, who was just beginning his career as longtime political cartoonist for The Oklahoman.
Jim was known for his sharp wit, intelligence and wide-ranging interests. However, he was most proud of pioneering the stay-at-home-dad prototype. He is survived by his grandson, Liam Wathen, and daughters Rachel and Sarah Lange, all of Orlando, Florida. Their mother, Ardith Lange, died in July in Orlando.
The family lived briefly in OKC, then in New Orleans and Orlando, before Jim returned in the early ‘90s to Oklahoma City. He reconnected with his many childhood friends, started a clock shop business and pursued other interests, always with a talent for drawing and a love of travel, especially international trips to more than 15 countries.
A graduate of John Marshall High School, he briefly attended the U.S. Air Force Academy before realizing a more unconventional lifestyle was his calling.
Survivors include his sister, Nancy Collins, Cookeville, TN; brother Robert, OKC; and their families, as well as the family of his brother Bill who preceded him in death. He also will be missed by his longtime companion, Peggy Hue of Chicago.
A gathering of friends will be from 5-7 pm Friday, Feb. 7, at Buffalo Wild Wings, 4130 NW Expressway. A private family service will be Feb. 8.
