John Khanh Nguyen – a devoted father, loving grandfather, and faithful friend – passed
away after his 8-month battle with late-stage lung cancer in Oklahoma City, OK August
7, 2024.
John was born in Nha Trang, Vietnam on August 10, 1953. He served as a lieutenant in
the South Vietnamese Army after graduating from the National Vietnamese Military
Academy in 1975. During his military service, he was captured and imprisoned in a
North Vietnamese POW camp where he relied on his faith and developed a special
devotion to Mother Mary.
Fortunately, John was able to escape and return home. With the help of his family, he
left Vietnam and became a citizen of the United States. Settling in Connecticut, John
studied electrical engineering at the University of Bridgeport, graduating in 1988.
John started his family in 1989, shortly after beginning his engineering career. He was
blessed with 3 children, Joseph, Jennifer, and Kimberly. In 1996, the Nguyen family
moved to Austin, TX where he would call home. John dedicated his life to raising his
children and loved every moment spent with them.
Retiring in 2016, John continued pursuing his passions in investing and exercise. He
also took up golf and began devoting more time to traveling embarking on multiple
cruises and tropical locales with family and close friends.
In April 2020, John became a grandfather, Ong Noi, a title he truly cherished. He always
got onto the floor with his grandchildren to play cars and ring stacker. Trips to the park
always brought out a special smile in John seeing the kids joy exploring the
playgrounds.
John’s dedication to his Catholic faith and Our Lady was evident in all aspects of his life.
It was a source of strength and comfort he drew upon, especially during the most painful
phases of his cancer journey. He will always be remembered for his daily 3pm Rosary.
John is survived by his three children Joseph, wife Mallory, Jennifer, husband Thuan,
and Kimberly, husband Kyle; 4 grandchildren Marshall, Conrad, Isla, and Paige; dear
friend Teresa Tran; and 4 brothers and sisters.
