John Richard Franklin, a devoted family man and respected member of his community, passed away peacefully on September 23. 2024, at the age of 83. Born on September 6, 1941, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, John’s journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his loved ones and an extraordinary dedication to his work and interests.
John’s early life in Oklahoma City laid the foundation for a life characterized by service and hard work. A proud graduate of Central High School in 1960, he carried the lessons learned and friendships forged there throughout his life. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call of duty by joining the Air Force Reserves, where he served his country from 1962 to 1968 with honor and distinction.
Following his military service, John embarked on a successful career as an industrial salesman with Kimball Midwest. His tenure spanned over three decades, during which time he became a pillar in the industry, know for his integrity, dedication, and the respectful relationships he cultivated with clients and colleagues alike.
John’s commitment to his community was equally as strong as his professional dedication. For over 40 years, he was an active participant in Marriage Encounter, an experience that not only enriched his own marriage but also allowed him to support and mentor countless other couples along their journeys. His involvement in this program was a testament to his faith-filled life and his belief in the enduring power of love and commitment.
Those who knew John understood his love for the outdoors. He found serenity in lawn work, taking pride in his meticulously cared-for yard, which became a haven for his cherished animals. His connection to nature and his pets provided not only a source of personal joy but also an example of his nurturing spirit.
Above all, John was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Tena Franklin; his daughters, Diana Park and Mary Beyer; and his cherished grandchildren, Justin Heitzler, Samantha Johnson, Lauren Simons, Christena Sparks, Johnathan Eiklor, and Heaven Eiklor. His legacy also lives on through his nine great-grandchildren, who will continue to be inspired by his life.
John’s character can best be summarized by three words: loving, faith-filled, and selfless. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, a love that was as unconditional as it was profound. His faith guided his actions and provided comfort and strength to those around him. And his selflessness was evident in every aspect of his life, from his career to his personal relationships.
As we remember John, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and grace. His was a life that touched so many, both through his personal connections and through the quiet example he set every day. John Richard Franklin was a man who lived with honor, loved with passion, and left this world a better place simply by having been in it.
