Juanita Hope Shirley was born 5 months and 6 days before Pearl Harbor was bombed. She lived in the same house from 2 years of age, until she entered college. DEEP ROOTS! She was called the “G.A. Peach”, being born and raised 60 miles south of Atlanta. Some also called her “The town clown” because she liked to get a laugh out of everyone. There were 8 siblings (1 stillborn) born to Opal and J.R. Holloway, Sr., only her youngest brother survives. At the age of 17, she was baptized for the remission of sins. She has been a member of the Lord’s church for more than 60 years. She taught 3-year-old class for some years in her earlier days. She pursued her college degree at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. After 2 years she transferred to Oklahoma Christian University on a full tuition scholarship. She received her BSE degree, and met the “love of her life”, Tom! They had 57 precious years together. She taught 6 years in primary grades in OKC and 1 year in a private school. After 7 years as a teacher, she decided to change professions, she applied for a job as a court clerk in the Municipal court of Record in OKC. Bingo! She worked for 4 judges. Her duties were to call court to order, swear in witnesses, and take notes on each case (to be transferred to permanent record) very interesting work! After 10 years there, she transferred to finance. When she had 6 years under her belt, she resigned to help Tom operate the cleaners they bought from parents who owned it for 40 years. They sold the business and retired in 2000. What a wonderful, full life they had! Juanita wrote, “we owe it all to the Lord above!”

August 16, 2024 at 12:18 pmMs. Juanita was a customer of mine at First Security Bank & Trust Company. I was her personal banker for 9 years and in those years, we had wonderful conversations about family, flowers and God. She was one of the nicest, kindest and funniest people I had ever met. I will miss the conversations and her smile.
