Julia Mae “Julie” Lampkin went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 27, 2023. Julie was born on October 8, 1931, to W.R. and Winnie Bishop in Foster, OK and grew up in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1949. Julie was always full of life, laughter and enjoyed getting together with her friends and family. Julie worshipped the Lord at New Covenant Christian Church. She married Charles Lampkin in 1966 and their lives together became one big adventure after another as they traveled around the world visiting many countries. Some of their favorites were England, Italy, Denmark, Norway, France, and China. She loved telling her family all about their trips and showing them her photos. They were relieved they didn’t have to sit through an hour-long slide show. Julie was a long-time member of Quail Creek Golf and Country Club for many years where she enjoyed and occasional round of golf and meeting her “Gal Pals” weekly in the lady’s locker room for an afternoon of playing the card game Bouree’. The ladies didn’t know, but Julie kept a daily record of her winnings and losses by writing it in her calendar. It would say “minus $11.00” one day and “plus $19.50” the next or maybe just “plus .25.” She kept all of her winnings in a Crown Royal purple bag that she hid in the pantry behind the canned goods! She built up a nice little nest egg that no doubt helped pay for her lavish traveling lifestyle. A group of Julie’s friends would meet monthly in each other’s homes for brunch and conversation that they lovingly called “Sewing Club.” (Although no actual sewing was involved). Julie always had a love for home décor so in the 1980’s she started her own home decorating business – mostly so she could obtain a tax permit and go to the Dallas Market and buy things Wholesale! If Julie ever called you “kid” you were probably honored that she had a special nick name for you. Oh, who are we kidding, she called everybody “kid.”
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lampkin, and daughter Lisa and son-in-law David Wooster, son Randy Montgomery, daughter Dena Duncan, and granddaughter Kimberly Dougherty, and her four brothers Raymond Bishop, Jim Bishop, Bill Bishop, Royce Bishop, and Sister Clema Davis.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Steve) Lower, son-in-law Jim Duncan, grandchildren Amanda Toups (Shane), Emily Gallagher, Wesley Montgomery (Debbie), Casey Nelson (Jeremy), Melanie Duncan, Katie Schneider (Jacob), 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild as well as many nephews and nieces.
Julie’s family would like to thank the staff at Quail Ridge Senior Living and Emerald Hospice for the kind and loving care they gave our precious “JuJu.”
