Karen Gayle Hart December 21, 1959 - November 13, 2021

Karen Gayle Hart lived a life devoted to family, friends, adventure, and hospitality. Born in Edmond, Oklahoma, on December 21, 1959, the 3rd daughter of Benton and Ruth Hart, Karen loved her family fiercely, especially her big sisters Nancy and Pam. She was always ready for the next adventure, no holding back. As an adult, Karen pursued a life of purpose, loving Jesus, her family, and friends. Karen loved with sacrificial love, faithfully devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was the epitome of kindness, generosity, and faithfulness, welcoming all into her home and her life, whether it was with words of encouragement or an offer of “a pop” and a warm conversation. Karen loved adventure, traveling, and playing games with family and friends. Regardless of the circumstances, she was affectionate and full of joy. To know her was to walk in light as she demonstrated the love of Jesus to everyone she encountered. Karen retired from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections after working more than 25 years, with a strong work ethic, well-respected by all, an example of what it means to be a servant leader. She went on to volunteer her time at the First Baptist Church of Piedmont. On November 12, 2021, after a life well-lived, Karen passed peacefully from this life into the arms of our Savior, Jesus, joining her parents and her sister, Nancy. She is survived by and dearly missed by her daughter, Kristi Unsell, her son Michael Unsell, his wife Ashley, grandchildren Noah and Makenzie; her sister Pam and her wife Janet; nephews and niece, Joe Benton, Robert, Kristina; and great-nieces and nephew Kaitlyn, Heather, and Nickolas.
