Kirk Douglas Greenwood, age 63, of Oklahoma City, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 26, 2023. A brain cancer, Glioblastoma, was the cause of his death. Kirk was born September 30, 1959, in Oklahoma City to Jack Durelle and Mollie Molean (Shanks) Greenwood. Before graduating in 1977 from Putnam City High School, Kirk had already been busy for years mowing lawns and painting houses. He remained a contractor his whole life maintaining Greenwood Painting and then started Greenwood Roofing which he also operated for years. A consistent attribute throughout his life was keeping up with nieces and nephews. “Uncle Kirky” was willing to drive many miles on short notice to attend a ballgame or special ceremony for any one of his nieces or nephews. This positive attribute carried into the next generation as great nieces and great nephews were also enjoyed and encouraged by “Uncle Kirky”. He was known by family and many friends as a “caregiver”, another strong characteristic displayed for years in caring for his parents and friends through illnesses of Alzheimer’s and cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Morris Karnes. He is survived by seven siblings: Dianne Chitwood (Randy), Jacque Hildebrand (Dean), Beverly Karnes, Barbara Prince (Randy), Jan Swann (Steve), Kent Greenwood (Sheri), Kreg Greenwood (Becky); 16 nieces and nephews; 31 great nieces and great nephews; three cousins, Melinda Robbins, Gregg Greenwood, and Milloy Liebe; a loyal friend of many years, Barbara Birdsong; and because of Kirk’s love and dedication, he became “Grandpa Shiny” to Savannah Lewis.
In lieu of flowers, because of Kirk’s lengthy illnesses, donations towards funeral costs would be appreciated. Please make donations to Buchanan Funeral Service, Kirk Greenwood Memorial, 8712 N Council Rd, OKC, OK 73132. Any remaining funds will be donated to Lilyfield Adoption and Foster Care Services in Edmond, OK.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 1, from 1:00pm to 7:00pm, with family receiving visitors from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Services to celebrate his life will be June 2, at 1:00pm, at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel, Oklahoma City, with Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
