Laila Shawareb December 5, 1939 - November 4, 2019

Laila Shawareb was born in Amman, Jordan on December 5, 1939 to Najeeb and Nada Haddad.  She was a wonderful and thoughtful sister to her five brothers , Halim, Munier, Kameel, Emil, Wadie, and to her three sisters, Aneesa, Hiam, and Sana.  She finished her teaching degree in Lebanon and furthered her studies in Oklahoma as well.  Laila taught in Amman, Jordan at the Seventh-day Adventist school and was a teacher’s aid in the Oklahoma City Public school system for many years. Laila married Atif Shawareb on August 19, 1966 and was a devoted wife for 51 wonderful years. She had two wonderful boys both born in Jordan,  John and Nidal.  The Shawareb family moved to Michigan in 1972 and had their daughter, JoAnn six years later. Laila was a loving wife to Atif, who preceded her on April 2, 2018.  She is now resting in peace with her beloved husband. She was a loving mother to her three children and caring grandmother to her eight grandchildren. Laila is survived by her oldest son John, his wife Amber, and their three children, Savannah, Sophie, and Gavin; their middle son Nidal, and his three children, Jordan, Jacob, and Isabella; and their  daughter JoAnn, her husband Johnny, and their two boys, Xavier and Jude. Laila always loved to bake for her grandchildren. She made everything from pineapple-upside down cake, to banana bread and homemade pita bread.  She was a truly selfless woman. Laila always put others before herself.  Even Taita Labebeh Atif’s mom) lived with us for many years, because she loved our mother so much. Throughout her life and throughout every stage of Alzheimer’s, Laila was always kindhearted and loving towards others.

To all her family and friends, she will be sorely missed. May she rest in peace together with Atif, in heaven above.
