Lettie Jean Smith May 14, 1921 - January 11, 2018

Lettie Jean Montgomery was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to George Bohemon and Beulah Lane Montgomery on May 14, 1921.  She was the youngest child in the family, with her siblings being: Coleen, Roy, and Jewel. Lettie’s mother passed away when she was one year old and she was adopted by Pat Claburn and Ethel Mae Atkinson of Wetumka, Oklahoma.  She was an only child in this family but was surrounded by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Lettie attended school in this rural Hughes county area and made many life-long friends.

Truman Smith married Lettie in 1938 and they had three children from this union:  Glenda Rae & husband Don Herman Barlow (both deceased); Vickie Sue & husband Harold Lee Brewster; and Bruce Randall Smith.  Lettie also has one grandchild, Trent, and three great-grandchildren: Kaytlin Faith, Ashley Victoria, and Brooklyn Raye.     Harold also has one son—Brent.

Lettie worked as a clerk/bookkeeper in numerous positions in Wetumka and later after moving to Oklahoma City. In fact, she was a part of the workforce for over 65 years. She felt that is was an honor and privilege to be able to work.

Her last church to attend was Bethel Assembly of God Church in Bethany, Oklahoma, under the leadership of Rev. Ray and Barbara Myers.  She enjoyed going to service and to bible studies. Lettie specifically thought it funny to tease Pastor Myers.  She enjoyed performing various craft projects, cooking, and especially caring for her pet dogs: Spud, Sparkie, and Bozo.

The family would like to thank the employees and friends from Windsor Hills Nursing Home:  Carolyn, John, and Paula; Integris Baptist Hospital and Integris Hospice House for the care that they provided Lettie during her stay at each place.

Lettie Jean went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 11, 2018, at the age of 96.

Services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in the chapel of Buchanan Funeral Service.
