Linda Kay (Jackson) Pratt, 82, of Bethany, Oklahoma, gained her angel wings on Oct. 19, 2023, in her home, surrounded by loved ones. Linda was born February 3, 1941, in New London, Ohio, to Lloyd and Dorothy (Hange) Jackson. Linda and her brothers grew up on her parents’ dairy farms in New London and Oberlin, Ohio. She graduated from Fireland High School in Oberlin in 1959. After graduating high school, she went on to receive her RN Diploma in Nursing from Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She began her nursing career at the Gates Hospital for Crippled Children in Elyria, Ohio.

Soon, Linda met James Pratt, and they were married on April 13, 1963. They began their travels from the East Coast to the West Coast and as far away as Germany, wherever James was stationed in the Army. After 14 years of military life, they settled in Bethany, and Linda began her career in public health in 1972 at the Oklahoma City-County Health Department, where she worked until she retired in 1997. During that time, she also received her bachelor’s degree in public health and became a Parish nurse. Even though Linda and James did not remain married, they did remain good friends and were always there for each other.

After retirement, Linda enjoyed a full life with her family, and friends from work, church and other social groups she joined. Linda’s favorite pastime was reading, having read more than 50 books this year alone. She belonged to a book club called The Birds, and each member selected a bird to be their bird. Linda’s favorite bird was the owl! She also enjoyed playing card games and dominos, and she passed on the love of those games to her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. She and her friends met every Wednesday to share lunch and a domino game of 12s or 15s. They also met at each other’s houses for Friday game nights.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Dorothy; her brother, Larry; and her ex-husband, James.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Easterling and husband Patrick of Yukon, Oklahoma; her son, James Pratt of Sagle, Idaho; her brother, Leon Jackson and wife Vickie of Bellview, Florida; her grandchildren, Kayla Zimmerman and husband Brian, Ryan Easterling and Tara Easterling; her great-grandsons Hunter and Hudson, and many nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 27, 2023, at Buchanan Funeral Service.
