Martha Mae Hicks June 14, 1935 - April 18, 2021

Martha Hicks was born on June 14, 1935 to Charles L. Manning and Lou Anna Campbell in the small western Kentucky town of Mayfield in the family home.  Her father would always tell her the story of being born on Flag Day, saying it was a celebration to wave “Old Glory” and to commemorate her joyous birth!  She said her “daddy” always made her feel special and loved.  Martha also enjoyed a very close relationship with her mother until her passing at the age of 100.  Her siblings were Winnie Lee Witherspoon, Lowell Manning, C.L. Manning, Jim Ed Manning, and Bill Manning, all deceased and Charline Manning Dandurant living in Dallas, Tx.

At the early age of 8, she and her parents moved from Kentucky to Bryan, Texas to live with her brother, Bill, where she graduated from Bryan High School in 1952.  Martha was active in musical activities and cheerleading as well as a member of the National Honor Society.

On August 15, 1952 she married Ray Pippin of Bryan, Texas and from that union, four children were born; Jeff, Cindy, David and Linda.

In 1997 she married George W. Hicks enlarging her family to include Susan Campbell, husband Russ and Peggy James, husband David, as well as their children and grandchildren.  George and Martha were married for 14 years until his death in 2011.

Throughout her life she was the center of her busy family of four children while working outside the home in the business world.  Martha worked as the office manager of Generations III, a family owned custom cabinetry business and they treated her like family.  She never had a desire to ”retire”.  She was also blessed with a creative spirit reflected in many ways; gardening, sewing, home decorating, sense of style and more.  As a successful designer and entrepreneur of porcelain Old World Santas as well as one of a kind vintage doily vests, she had a following of faithful customers throughout the years. Martha loved sports and always followed her local teams.  As an avid Oklahoma Sooner and Oklahoma City Thunder fan, Martha could talk sports with the best of them!

She instilled in her children the strong foundation of faith, love of family, strength, determination and work ethic.  She has always carried within her a deep relationship with God which provided much comfort throughout her years.  She was an active member of the Church of Christ throughout her life.  She taught Sunday school, participated in church activities, as well as providing an encouraging word to others. She loved to sing the hymns during church service proudly raising her beautiful soprano voice to God!  She was a member of the Deer Creek Church of Christ, Edmond, OK.  There she met and shared a close friendship with Teddy JoAnn Watson.

Martha Hicks leaves behind a legacy of love; which includes four children, son Jeff Pippin, wife Nancy of Westlake Village, CA.  Daughter Cindy Winfrey, husband Herschell of Benbrook, Tx.  Son, David Pippin of Oklahoma City and daughter Linda, husband Kurt of Catoosa, Ok.

She was the proud grandmother of nine, Jay Bowen (deceased), Kyle Bowen, Kelly Quinn, Ryan Lewis, Carly Pippin, Tyler Lewis, Katie Cole, Austin Lewis and Emily Pippin (deceased).  Her legacy also includes ten great grandchildren and many cherished friends throughout her life.
