With an engaging smile, outgoing personality and a genuine love for people of all ages, Matthew Rogers made friends quickly and was cherished by his family and friends. On Sunday, February 18, 2024, Matthew Ryan Rogers, age 37, died unexpectedly of natural causes. Born on January 22, 1987, Matt was the beloved son of Suzanne [Scroggins] and Larry Rogers, and younger brother to Michael Rogers.
Matthew grew up in Oklahoma City, was educated in Putnam City Schools and graduated from P.C. North High School in 2005. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2010, was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, had fun playing on an intramural rugby team and was an OU sports fan. His senior year of university study, he experienced life abroad while studying and traveling with an OU students’ group to Germany and Austria. Upon graduation, he moved to Dallas-Fort Worth area for business opportunities, including UPS at the Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport. He returned to Oklahoma City in 2022, and worked in the insurance industry. His love of animals led him to care for many cats, including the special three he rescued. Matt was interested in history, genealogy and enjoyed watching movies and documentaries. His kitchen window sill and patio provided space for his garden. He relished trying new restaurants and cuisine, found joy in learning to cook and was especially proud of his gumbo recipe. Dressing nice and having a good haircut pleased Matt, yet in contrast, he had fun camping and hiking in Missouri and southeast Oklahoma and going to southeast Oklahoma’s Honobia Big Foot Festival. His other activities were disc golf, archery, swimming and working out at the gym.
Matthew is survived by his Mom, Suzanne; brother, Michael; aunts, uncles and several cousins. Matt was preceded in death by his Dad, Larry Rogers; and his grandparents. A memorial service to honor Matt will be in March. Arrangements are by Buchanan Funeral Services, 8712 N. Council Rd. in Oklahoma City.
