Monica was born June 14, 1958 in Santa Monica, California. Her birthday happened to be Flag Day and as a child she thought all the flags displayed were in celebration for her. She attended Canogo Park High School as well as Los Angeles Pierce College. She worked as a veterinary tech, beginning her life-long love of animals. She was a confirmed member of the Episcopal Church St. Martin’s in the Field in Canogo Park She enjoyed a Masonic membership with the Rainbow Girls and later as an adult, with the Eastern Star.

Monica wanted to experience the world, travel and live life to the fullest. The Navy offered her this opportunity, so she joined, serving her country from 1989 to 2003 as a meteorologist equipment technician. She had seven years of Foreign Service including Naples, Italy and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. During her time in the military, she had many awards and accommodations. Italy was a wonderful time in Monica’s life. She enjoyed the food, the people, the craftsmanship of goods and it was there that she met her husband who was also in the service. She was married in 1992 and was blessed with a son, Daniel. She was stationed stateside in Jacksonville, Florida as well as Charleston, South Carolina. She was a devoted wife and mother, a hard worker, an honor to her country and a ray of light to anyone who was fortunate enough to meet her.

Monica will be forever remembered for her unwavering dedication to never miss a birthday, anniversary, graduation or other special event, marking it by sending a greeting card with a reminder of her love and best wishes. She kept a yearly calendar and continually updated it to capture all the important events in the lives of the people that she loved. She often sent the young people in her family books for birthdays, carefully chosen for their age range and current interests. Monica loved parties and gatherings, she could always be counted on to show up early and pitch in with decorations or anything that needed to be done. Her personality was warm, inviting, and funny and she put people at ease. Thank you, Monica, for always remembering us, for every card that you wrote, all the love that you sealed into each envelope. It is our turn to never forget you and to send you all of our love. You will be missed terribly.
