Newton W “Newt” Flora July 14, 1918 - October 31, 2012

Dr. Newton (Newt) W. Flora, 94, was born on July 14th, 1918 and passed away peacefully at home on Oct 31st, 2012. Newt served in WWII as an Air Force Sgt. With the 82nd Squadron / 12th Bombardment group in the African Theater. He then attended and began his career of 43 yrs at Oklahoma State University in the Entomology Dept., where he earned his Doctorate and retired. He then accepted a position with the OK. St. Dept. of Agriculture writing their EPA Proposals which proudly he never had one refused eventually retiring a second time in 1988 as the Assistant Director of the Plant Industry Division. His innovations and contributions in the use and application of chemical pesticides are still highly regarded today. He is preceded in death by wife Wanda Jean (Brattain) Flora, parents Newton C. and Alma Flora, grandson Michael Shane, 3 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by wife Jo Ann (Hyatt) Flora of the home, 1 brother, 2 sisters, son Michael, daughter Mary Jane Rorick, stepchildren Mike and Betty Cox, grandsons Kenny Flora and wife Trayce, Shawn Cox and wife Kristina, Tina Flora, great grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Kerrie Ann, Dylan, Dalton, Matilyn, Bella and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family would like to thank all of his doctors, nurses and caregivers for all of their compassion and aid through the years.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 8 PM Sunday with the family receiving visitors from 4 – 6. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, November 5, 2012 in the Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Little Cemetery north of Seminole, OK.
