Pairlee Laverne Ellington Joiner was born December 8, 1928 near Russell, Oklahoma to Guy Neal Ellington and Martha Nazarene (Cole) Ellington. She grew up in Greer County where she attended the Wildcat School. She graduated from Centralvue High School as valedictorian in 1946 and then attended Hill’s School of Business in Oklahoma City.
On June 12, 1947 she married Thomas Joiner in Wellington, Texas. To this union were born two children, Carol Beth and Thomas Ray Joiner. While living in various towns in Oklahoma, Laverne worked at the Ardmore Hospital, an insurance agency/real estate office in Lawton and the Department of Human Services in Lawton and Oklahoma City before retiring in 1980. After returning to Mangum she managed the insurance agency she and her husband bought until she retired again in 1983.
Her love of cooking was enjoyed by all who were fortunate enough to partake of it. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and square dancing. Camping in an RV was a regular activity. Many summers were spent in Colorado and some winters in south Texas as well as other trips to places like Louisiana, Arkansas and Yellowstone Park.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, her husband, and her son. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hulett, son in law Adam Hulett, two granddaughters, Stephanie Curd and her husband, Kevin and Melissa Hulett, two great granddaughters, Avery and Emerson Curd, and three great grandsons, Chase, Tye and Levi Anderson.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum, Oklahoma Thursday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m.
