Ruth McAlister November 11, 1940 - June 23, 2018

Ruth Burry McAlister was born November 11, 1940 in Orange Lake, Florida, to Carlos and Velma Burry. Ruth graduated Reddick High School in Reddick, Florida. She received a Bachelor’s in education and psychology from Greensboro College, Greensboro, N.C. May 7, 1996 she received a Masters of Human Relations from OU. She taught Special Education students in North Carolina, Florida, California and Illinois. Ruth also taught at Platt College for several years. Ruth and Kenneth McAlister were married in Montego Bay, Jamaica on July 18, 1967. She was a certified Grief Recovery Counselor and operated of her own private practice for several years. Ruth was a strong advocate for the under privileged.  She worked with the Salvation Army and Red Cross when there was a disaster in the area. She had three loves, travel, travel, and travel. Ruth visited 15 different countries using public transportation and meeting the local residents. She had our next trip planned for August 25, 2019, a cruise of Northern Europe visiting five countries. She worked for OK Visual Services Department as a driver for 25 years. She loved life and people. She is survived by her husband Ken and her sister Joann Sherouse and many close friends. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 28, 2018, in the chapel of Buchanan Funeral Service.
