Samuel Clayton Jackson, 87, passed away on June 29th,2024 surrounded by family members in Oklahoma City.
Born on May 7th, 1937, in Wichita, Kansas, Sam graduated from Wichita North High School and attended Wichita State University and Washburn University.
At 18, Sam joined Missouri Gas Energy as a mail clerk in Wichita, Kansas. Throughout the next 40 years, Sam worked in various positions until he was named Vice President of Southeastern Operations for MGE. In Sam’s role as VP, he was instrumental in moving the company forward with meter reading to provide better customer service for the nearly 500,000 customers.
As a member of the MacArthur Church of Christ for more than 17 years, Sam was active in Brother’s Keepers, the Welcome group, the Men’s breakfast gatherings, and faithfully attended church. He was skilled in woodworking, creating many beautiful items including a grandfather clock which currently sits in his home. Sam also enjoyed square dancing in his younger days.
Sam is preceded in death by his wife Roberta, three brothers Richard, Philip, and Jerry Jackson, stepfather Pearl Jackson Cluster, father Willard “Bud” Jackson, mother Mary Cluster, and son Stephen Jackson.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jackson of Yukon, OK; children Tammy and Tony Eilert of Topeka, Kansas; Cindy and Bob Coss of Angel Fire, New Mexico; Harry Skip Jackson of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; stepchildren Ginny and John Underwood of Mustang, OK; and Jeff and Keri Parks of Oklahoma City. Sam was known as “Pappy” to 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
