Upon graduating from Bishop McGuinness in 1970, he attended Oklahoma State University until he was called to military service during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Oklahoma State and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, eventually becoming a professional engineer specializing in structural inspections.

King is survived by his wife, Susan; father, Earl and wife Lee; sons, Corey (Stefanie) and Ryan; daughter, Haley Barber (Kurtis) and granddaughter, Madelyn; sister, Susan Brewer (Randy) and brother, David. He was predeceased by his mother.
