Stephen “Steve” Dale Henry, 62, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away surrounded by his loved ones on March 21st, 2023. Steve was born on July 22nd, 1960 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and graduated from high school at Living Word Academy in 1978. Following graduation, he quickly began working at General Motors in 1979 while also attending classes at the University of Oklahoma. He retired from GM in 2006. His love for tennis led him to a second career operating the Earlywine Tennis Center in 2007. In 2009, Steve accepted his dream position as the Facility Director at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. Here he oversaw numerous USTA tournaments at the local and national levels, directed the High School State Tennis Championships, mentored many youth as a tennis instructor, and volunteered his time with First Serve OKC. Steve additionally served on multiple USTA committees dedicated to developing youth and adult tennis within the state, section, and nation. Throughout his time at the Earlywine Tennis Center and OKC Tennis Center Steve received several awards acknowledging his contributions to the game of tennis. Mostly recently, he was named USTA Missouri Valley President.
Steve’s passions went beyond the tennis court. He enjoyed detailing cars (particularly his Hummers) and spending quality time with his family. There were very few of his daughters’ gymnastics meets and tennis tournaments that he missed.
Steve was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Elvis and Ima Henry and his maternal grandparents Bert Sr. and Alta Stewart as well as uncles Bert Stewart and Jack Stewart. He is survived by his wife Beth Henry, daughters Jordan and Ryan Henry, grandmother Jaunell Moses, parents Marian and Bobby Henry, brother Bret Henry, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the directions of Buchanan Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held on March 25th, 2023 at 1pm at Highland Hills Baptist Church, 7900 Devore Dr. OKC, OK 73162. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 31st, 2023 from 5-9pm at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center, 3400 N. Portland Ave OKC, OK 73112.
