Thelma Musick September 6, 1946 - July 30, 2019

Thelma Mae Musick was born in Oklahoma City on September 6, 1946 to William Edward Hopkins and Minnie Elizabeth (Bailey) Hopkins.  As a child her neighborhood playmates called her Baby.  As she grew that was shortened to Babe”, which stuck, and throughout life most people only knew her as Babe.

She attended and graduated from Putnam City High School.  Her church affiliation was Assembly of God.  She was a lifelong member of Airport Assembly of God (now Triumph Family Worship).  She had various jobs as a young woman.  She worked for O’Mealy’s Cafeteria and then worked as a welder on computer boards for General Electric.  Then she started to work at a day care.  She loved the children she cared for so much.  She worked many years for the Oklahoma County election board.

She met William Bill Musick in 1968.  They attended church together.  Bill was in the Air Force and he and Babe corresponded during his deployment to Japan.  Bill enjoyed roller skating and upon his return she joined right in with him.  They fell in love and were married on June 20, 1969.

Babe was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, and sister and brother in law, Alma and Robert Wilson.  She is survived by her sister and brother in law, Bonnie and Gary Taylor.  Also, Bills brother, Sam Musick.  Nephews, Johhny Taylor and his wife Kori, David Taylor and his wife Stephanie, Danny Taylor and his wife Leeann.  Robert (Bobby) Wilson and his fiancé Krista.  Niece, Cathy Hedges and her husband, Don. Eight grand nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Babes interests were embroidery and craft work. She loved country and western music.  Her main hobby was collecting salt and pepper shakers.

Services to celebrate her life will be 2 pm, Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in the chapel of the Buchanan Funeral Service with burial to follow at Star Valley Cemetery in Chandler, OK.  Visitation will be Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 1 to 8.  The family will be there to greet you at 6:00.

Babe’s Life

If I were to pick someone from the Bible to liken Babe to, it would be Mary who loved Jesus so much.  She went through life placing her importance on what really mattered.  Busyness and possessions didn’t matter to her.  She loved her family and friends and focused on caring and sacrificing for others.  The scripture that best describes her is from 1 Timothy 6:6, Godliness with contentment is great gain. Wealth and material things meant little to her.  She was at peace.  If she was worried or upset, you didn’t know it.  She gave her problems and concerns to Jesus, as she knew He would take care of them. Many of her family and friends problems were taken care of because she prayed and gave them to Jesus too.

In looking up “words” to describe her all you had to do was to look at the fruits of the spirit.  Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.  Some people have some of these qualities, but Babe  was rich, she had them all.

Babe didn’t have a college degree, but she minored in house work and majored in child care.  She had a “Masters Degree” when it came to loving and caring for “her” children. I’m so glad I got to share my children and grandchildren with her.

I can’t begin to list my memories of times shared with her or ever explain what she meant to me.  The good times were pure joy and the bad times were only bearable because I had my “big sister”.  I will miss her every day for the rest of my life and someday will be so happy to join her in Heaven.  Love you, Babe.
