Tommy Lloyd Foster September 25, 1933 - April 16, 2020

Tommy Lloyd Foster was born September 25, 1933 to Martha McNeil Dyer Foster and Edmond Columbus Foster in the Mt. Pleasant community of Wilkes County, NC. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1951. After graduation he moved to Detroit, MI to seek work in the auto industry, working for Ford Motor Company. He then decided to enlist in the United States Air Force where he served admirably for 4 years, spending the majority of his career in Sacramento, CA. After serving our country, he returned to North Carolina and used his experience in electronics and avionics to get a job at Western Electric in Winston-Salem, where he would spend 37 years working until his retirement in 1996. On February 14, 1960 he married the love of his life, Helen Minton, recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. On June 19, 1972 their son, David Churchill Foster was born in Winston-Salem, NC. In November, 1988 the family re-located to Oklahoma City, OK so Tommy could finish his career with Western Electric.

Tommy was a member and Deacon at Highland Hills Baptist Church for many years. His faith was very important to him and he led his family with honor and integrity and has been a great example to others of how to live a Christian life. For the last several years, he also served as a volunteer at Harvest Hills Elementary School, reading to and with students. In addition, he volunteered in many capacities at the church, always putting others before himself. In his spare time he loved to travel with his wife, Helen, attend sporting events with his son, David, visit with David and his wife, Ali, and spoil his granddaughter, Audrey.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Helen, of the home in Oklahoma City, OK; his son, David and his family, wife Ali; and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter Audrey, of Wichita, KS; sister, Mary Ellen (Foster) Triplett and husband Gene of Wilkesboro, NC. He will be interred at Scenic Memorial Gardens in Moravian Falls, NC. The family plans to have memorial services in Oklahoma City and Wilkesboro, NC when conditions allow.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina (chsnc.org – 604 Meadow Street, Greensboro, NC 27405).
