Doris was born December 5th,1933 in Hughes County Holdenville, OK. She graduated from Holdenville High in 1953. After working the family farm with her brothers & sisters growing up. Her small-town roots didn’t stay rooted for long. Those bright, blue eyes were set on “Big City” Oklahoma.
Doris worked alongside her Husband, Doug at Taylors Downtown Glass in OKC for 30+years as an Accountant. She was often referred to as “The Bookie” for obvious reasons, but some would argue it was the gold loafers and excessive jewelry she wore. She was classy & fancy in her own way. Doug & Doris created a Life with their blended family of Four Children, Debbie, Alan, Angela & Pam who later blessed them with 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren. Doris always made sure the freezer was stocked with Braum’s ice cream and the pantry with little snack cakes for the grandkids & Doug.
Doris was a lover of the arts & music. She frequented Branson, MO & Las Vegas for shows. Her last concert was Cher and she always said it was one of the best performances she had ever seen. She was an avid antique collector. Throughout the years Doris & her Husband, Doug travelled throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, Canada, Panama, & Mexico seeking out to find various treasures. There wasn’t an auction or swap meet they hadn’t explored. She had quite the collection of clown art & figurines meticulously displayed in their family den. Despite having two spare bedrooms, the grandkids preferred a pallet of blankets & pillows on the floor in their grandparent’s room instead.
Doris was always looked well put together. She had a standing 10am Appt at the Beauty Shop every Wednesday. Had great taste in shoes and an outfit for every occasion. In her later years, she took a liking to crafts. The kitchen table would be covered in silk flowers and hot glue gun sticks. She enjoyed making floral arrangements & wreaths. Shopping was a second hobby. Although her Husband, Doug would say it was her first. Doris loved people. She enjoyed talking to everyone she met. Doris never knew a stranger, everyone was a friend. She’d quickly usher you in the kitchen for a cup of coffee & good conversation anytime you stopped in. Time spent with her family & friends was what she truly cherished the most. We will miss her laugh, her spunky wit, her love & those big blue eyes, But find joy in knowing she’s surrounded with family and friends at the kitchen table enjoying good coffee & good conversation. Until we can join you again…
Love you Always Infinity + 1
