Edward Joseph “Joe” Schryver, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital surrounded by family. The oldest of three children, Joe was born February 8, 1948 in Olean, New York, to Edward Joseph Schryver, Sr. and Anna Rose Schryver (Barnes). Early on his family relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Joe was an active member of the Boy Scouts and various church youth groups. Joe graduated from Harrison Jr/Sr High School in 1966, and shortly after enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he would serve as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate (Engine Mechanic) until his honorable discharge in October of 1972. It was at the beginning of his service that he met the love of his life, Gloria June Fleener. Joe and Gloria were wed on September 27, 1966, sharing 52 years of marital bliss until Gloria’s passing in 2019. Always willing to lead by example, Joe returned to academic pursuits and became an insurance claims adjustor – the career that brought him to Oklahoma City in 1996. Joe was an avid photographer and loved capturing life’s best moments. He was also an eclectic collector of hat and lapel pins. When not engrossed in these hobbies, Joe could be found caught up in reading or watching crime dramas or following his favorite sports teams. He was an active member of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, and in the latter years of his life volunteered time for the Right to Life ministry. In addition to his wife, Gloria, and parents, Edward and Anna, Joe was predeceased by an infant son Thomas Eugene Schryver. He is survived by his children – Theresa “Terri” Schryver, Bryan (Sara) Schryver, and Mary (Jon) Fahy; his grandchildren – Jennifer (Steele) Ovitt, Cameron Schryver, Zoe Schryver, and Colette Fahy; great-grandchildren – Anthony and Caspian Ovitt; his sisters Judy (Gene) Palladino and Janice (Frank) Murray; and many other friends and family. A memorial service will be held at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church at 10:30am on Monday, July 3, 2023, led by Fr. Bird and Deacon Richard Fahy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local veterans’ organization or charity.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 7336 W Britton Rd. Oklahoma City, OK 73132.
