Harriet Ann Brewer was born to Opal and Ralph Hackett in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on July 7th, 1938. She met and married her wonderful husband Dr. William Brewer on December 21st, 1958. She loved her career as a 1st grade teacher. She taught in Oklahoma City, Midwest City & Memphis, TN for a combined total of 38 years before retiring.
Harriet lost her 4-year battle with Alzheimer’s and died peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on Friday June 10th. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who never met a stranger. She made friends with anyone who crossed her path. She loved volunteering for Stephen Ministries, Oklahoma blood bank, and had a special place in her heart for teaching children how to read. Her faith, family, friends, and dog Cooper meant the world to her.
Harriet loved baking with her grandchildren, singing in choir at church, and you would never find her without a good book in hand.
Harriet is preceded in death by her parents and her son Brian Brewer.
Harriet is survived by her husband William Brewer. Daughter Shelley Troyer and husband Michael; daughter in-law Pamela Brewer. Her grandchildren Derek Brewer and wife Kayla; Allyson Troyer; Adrienne Troyer; Trent Brewer and great-grandchildren Madison and Emery Brewer.
Her family would like to thank everyone at Excell Hospice and their amazing friends at Harbor Chase for helping her during her transition to heaven.
Celebration of life will be held at Buchanan funeral home on Friday June 17th at 10am.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and St. Jude’s to support her favorite charities.
