James Ross Sherry September 22, 1933 - September 1, 2023

Date of Funeral

September 8, 2023

Memorial Service: 2 PM, Friday, September 8th at Quail Springs Baptist Church

James Ross Sherry, 89, Oklahoma City, entered Heaven peacefully with his wife Kathleen by his side on September 1, 2023 (just 22 days shy of his 90th birthday).

He was born September 22, 1933 to Edward Sherman and Mamie Lola (Wilson) Sherry in Oklahoma City where he lived his entire life. James attended Webster Junior High and graduated in 1951 from Central High School. He went on to attend Oklahoma A&M and while there worked at the O’Collegian. After college James had a variety of jobs, including working for WKY-TV. He later began his career as an offset printer, running the print shop at First National Bank Oklahoma City for more than 25 years. Eventually he would run his own printing company, JK Graphics, which began in his converted garage.

James had a great love of cars and spent most of his 20’s showing them – often with Darryl Starbird. His pride and joy was his 1957 Chevy 210 Sport Coupe named The Hoot.

He met his wife Kathleen McDaris in 1964 and they were married in 1966 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two children, Stacie and Chris, who followed in his footsteps attending OSU.

James loved the OSU Cowboys and was rarely seen without any orange on. He loved model trains and building Legos. He was an active member of Nichols Hills Baptist Church/Quail Springs Baptist Church even watching online after his health declined. He loved Jesus and was a happy church man whether it was cooking at Falls Creek, driving the bus for VBS, helping with snacks, or just attending church. He never met a stranger and always had a story or joke to tell.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Kathleen of the home; daughter Stacie Sherry, Oklahoma City; son Chris and wife Emily, Leander, TX; and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Roy and wife Betty, and sister Lola Lee and husband George Puckett.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m, Friday, September 8 at Quail Springs Baptist Church Chapel (14613 North May Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73134).
