She was born Maxine Bernice Pogreba on January 1st, 1912, in Hillyard, Washington. She was the 3rd of 5 children born to Joseph and Mamie Pogreba. She received her formal education at Hillyard High School in Hillyard. She loved to dance. (At age 95, she even "took a spin" around the reception's dance-floor at her grandson-David's wedding.)
Maxine was united in holy matrimony to George Floyd in 1931. They moved to Morgan Acres, then Ford, then Daisy, all in Washington. Beginning in 1951, they were among the pioneers homesteading in Daisy overlooking Lake Roosevelt (Columbia River). She worked alongside her husband helping to raise crops and livestock on their farm. She even helped him pan for gold on the Columbia River before the Grand Coulee Dam was built.
Together, they bore 3 children: Helen, Frank, and Linda.
She managed the farm with the help of her son, Frank, after George, her husband of 40 years, passed away in 1971. She lived there by herself another 31 years until 2002 when she went to live with her daughter Linda, for about 8 more years in Oklahoma City.
All who met Maxine were instantly touched by her ready, radiant and contagious smile and would say so.
She accepted Christ in mid-life and joined the community church, then the Assembly of God church.
The Lord called Maxine home on May 26, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. central standard time after serving 98 years on the Lord's battlefield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Joe and Mamie Pogreba; all her sisters and brother, Leona, George, Bernice, and Evelyn; and her daughter, Helen.
