Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Friday, September 22, 2023 at Putnam City Baptist Church

Michael Ross Pennington, 74, of Oklahoma City passed from this world on September 19, 2023 with his family at his side. He was born February 8, 1949 in OKC to Paul and Inez Pennington. Before cancer took his life he was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. In his younger years he spent many years raising bird dogs and chasing quail and pheasants around the state. If it wasn’t hunting season he logged many hours on his bass boat.  Once the golf bug hit it became a daily routine of 18 plus holes on the regular. If it was a sport and outside he was in heaven. He was a loving husband, father and Pawpaw. His proudest accomplishment was raising his two sons and watching them grow into the family men they are today and raising children of their own. Mike was married to Etta for 54 years and enjoyed spending every waking moment with her. They had many adventures from camping at the lake to vacationing exotic places around the globe. Etta was the love of his life and he truly loved her with all his heart, even in his last days.

Papaw loved his grandchildren and wanted nothing more to watch them in any event they were participating in. He and Etta spent many of an hour at the ball fields in Oklahoma and Texas cheering and “sometimes” coaching from afar. He loved watching them and wanted to participate in anything they were doing.

Mike retired from the Oklahoma City Fire Department as a Battalion Chief after 31 years of service. He truly loved this brotherhood and cherished the many memories the service provided. Mike was a friend and mentor to many and led life to its fullest. Although Mike is gone from this world he left his mark on many and his legacy continues.

Proceeded in death by his parents Paul and Inez, his in-laws Virgil and Odell Paulk.

Mike is survived by his wife Etta of 54 years. His two sons Todd(Stephanie) and Chad  (Amy). Three siblings, Greg (Sherrie),Steve (Terri)& Paula (Brent). Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family extends a special thank you to the team at Frontier Hospice. Their love and care was such a blessing to Mike and the rest of the family.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Oklahoma Fallen & Living Firefighters Memorial. 2716 NE 50th street. Okc, Ok 73111.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Putnam City Baptist Church, 11401 N Rockwell Ave. Oklahoma City, OK 73162. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
