Betty McGowan May 18, 1924 - December 10, 2010

Betty B. McGowan was born on May 18, 1924. to Carl and Louie Neill in Belpre, KS, and departed this life on December 10, 2010 in Bethany, OK. which had been her residence since 1968, moving from Boulder, CO. She graduated from Vilas, CO., High School in 1942 and married Bernard McGowan on April 2, 1944.

She is survived by husband Bernard, daughter Wava Morris and granddaughter Shawna Morris, Steamboat Springs, CO., son Darwin McGowan and wife Cindy, OKC and granddaughter Lynn McGowan Wieck, Seminole, OK. and daughter Marla McGowan, Bethany and granddaughter Alexandra McGowan, and two great grandchildren, Laurel and Luke Wieck. Betty was preceded in death by her only grandson Dixon McGowan and great grandson Baby Boy Wieck.

Betty also leaves brother- in-law, Neil Cook, Walsh, CO; nieces and nephews; Karen (Tucker) Coblentz and husband John, Tyler, TX.; Danny Self and wife Kathy, Springfield, CO.; Erroll Cook and wife Gayle, Walsh, CO.; Vaughn Cook and wife Jill, Ft. Collins, CO.; Elvon Rose, Walsh; Tamara (Rose) Groves and husband Bob, Canon City, CO., and Karla (Rose) Lemke, Springdale, Ar.; and a host of great nieces and nephews. She also leaves her special caregiver and dear friend, Shella Pool.

Betty dearly loved her family and was a wonderful mother and grandmother; always helping with chauffeuring to music lessons and sports practices, baking for never ending bake sales, sewing Halloween and school costumes throughout the years, attending many rodeo's, basketball games, soccer matches along with school plays, programs and music and dance recitals. She also enjoyed fundraising for the American Cancer Society for many years.

Betty enjoyed traveling with Bernard and also went on many wonderful adventures throughout the country with her sister Margaret and special friend Ruth Thomas.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be Wed., Dec. 15th at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Bethany, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
