Catherine Louise (Kate) Roberts Stafford was born July 1, 1938, to J. N. and Ollie McClusky Roberts in Hobart, OK. After her family moved to a farm northwest of Roosevelt, Kate attended Elementary through High School in Roosevelt graduating in 1955.

Due to her excellent grades in Typing, Shorthand and other business classes in High School, Kate moved to Oklahoma City where she was immediately hired at the Department of Human Services as a Secretary. Wayne also moved to Oklahoma City and began working as a Salesman at National Shirt Company. They continued dating, became engaged and married on September 24, 1955. They would have celebrated their 62 Wedding Anniversary had Wayne not passed away on September 15, 2017.

Wayne and Kate eventually transferred to Fort Worth, TX where their son, Steven Wayne Stafford was born on December 3, 1958.  Wayne then began working for an oil company and they moved to Tulsa, OK, and eventually to Spring, Texas and finally to Katy, TX.

Kate obtained employment as a Secretary with Arco/British Petroleum, retiring after 24 years.

Kate and son, Steve, remained in Katy after Wayne’s passing until both had declining health issues and moved to Teal Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care in Oklahoma City, OK, to be closer to family members who could assist in their care. Kate passed away there on September 17, 2023.

Kate was a member of West Houston Church of Christ  and later of Cinco Rancho Church of Christ while they lived in Katy, TX.  Kate, Wayne and Steve enjoyed traveling to sightsee and to visit family. They visited California, Washington, D. C., and even won tickets to see the University of Oklahoma in one of their Orange Bowl appearances. They made several trips to College Station for Texas A & M football games during Steve’s 4 years there. Kate also enjoyed playing Bridge.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 5 of her siblings: Sisters Shirley Thompson, Jennie Hill, and Mildred Denison and brothers Bill and Jack Roberts.

Kate is survived by her Son, Steve, of Oklahoma City, OK, one Sister, Frances Herod, of Owasso, OK; Sisters-in-law Phyllis Cook Stafford Stockton of Ft. Cobb, OK, and Marilyn Stafford Buchanan of Edmond, OK; Special Friends Andy Hamilton of Bay City, TX , and Joyce Settle of Katy, TX, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 6, at 11:30a.m. at Katy Magnolia Cemetery, 6801 Franz Road, Katy, TX.
