Mary Catherine “Cathey” McGregor was born March 22, 1950 in Birmingham, AL (Jefferson County) to James and Geneva Louise Butler “Jean” McGregor. She lost her father when she was only 8 years old and was raised by her step-father Ted C. Moore.
She passed away and went to be with her Lord and creator at 6:00pm on Sunday, February 18, 2018.
She graduated from Everman High School in Ft. Worth, TX in 1969 and Central State Beauty Academy in Oklahoma City in 1978.
The beginning of an amazing new journey was when she married Harmon Edward “Eddie” Sisson on May 1, 1970 in Rockport, TX. They couldn’t foresee what the future would hold but they knew they wanted to be together forever.
Cathey loved and put her faith in God above all. She was baptized and gave her life over to Christ so she may have everlasting and eternal life. She was a member of the Church of Christ and taught her children and grandchildren the importance of leading a Christian life as well.
She was a wife, mother and grandmother first! However, she was also a great sister, aunt, and friend. She and Eddie have visited numerous times about how their social circle may not be very large, but it is certainly full of quality!
To friends she was “Cathey” ; To Eddie she was “Babe” or “Mama ” ; To her children she was “Mom” ; To her grandchildren she was “Memaw”
She has left behind numerous Legacies! 1.Homemaker – immensely loved and supported her entire family.
- Beautician – stylist and masseuse for the community. 3.Funeral Professional – performed every role (funerals, books, visitation, dressing, etc.) 4.Fitness Administrator – managed records, reviewed membership agreements and kept everyone in the company honest!
Eddie & James were often the face of the businesses, but Cathey’s tireless work behind the scenes sure did make them look good!
She wasn’t one that liked to receive but she loved to GIVE! She would give affection, gifts or just her time….whatever someone was really needing.
She loved ALL children and they could feel that and were naturally drawn to her.
She was an amazing host….everyone was welcome. She was a really good cook and enjoyed it, so there was always more than enough to eat in the Sisson home!
She enjoyed playing cards and games – her favorite was Phase 10. She only played for the camaraderie, not to win – but she did nearly always win anyway!
Since she was a beautician and gave the entire family haircuts which added up to hundreds over the years.
She was proud to belong to the Young Homemaker’s Organization while living in Okeene, OK
It was important to Cathey and Eddie to travel around the country and have fun and experience new places. Often times they would let their kids take a friend along too.
She was a beautiful woman inside and out! She had a kind heart and was courteous to all. She was conservative (having not ever had a single cigarette or drink of alcohol) but she was proud of that and still knew how to have fun and be sociable.
Many family members often looked to her for foot rubs, scalp rubs, back rubs, etc. She had a gift for putting you to sleep (or until she fell asleep)
She was also skilled at sewing and enjoyed that. She made Christie’s prom dress as well as several blankets, pillows and other items for other family that will be keepsakes forever.
Perhaps one of her most memorable and most cherished moments was celebrating her and Eddie’s 40th Wedding Anniversary! She was VERY proud of their accomplishment to stay together (especially since many that knew them predicted they would last about 1 year)
Times have changed now but back in the day when her children were young, they loved her homemade popcorn balls at Halloween. She would even make enough to hand out to all the trick-or-treatersJ
As the family looked back and reviewed old photos, she often times wasn’t in them….because she was usually taking the photos!
In recent years as her health began declining, she and Eddie enjoyed just getting in the car and going for a drive to talk and reminisce about their days together young and old.
Cathey was a fighter!! She survived two heart attacks and a stroke and was determined each time to get better and continue to live life to the fullest. Despite the regular visits to multiple doctors, countless blood draws and prodding…she still maintained a positive attitude and was respectful to all medical personnel.
Cathey is survived by her husband Eddie of the home; daughter Christie Geis and husband Kevin of Oklahoma City; son James Sisson and wife Susan of Oklahoma City; one brother Jim McGregor of Granbury, TX; one sister Dianne Wilder and husband Mike of Abilene, TX; and 6 wonderful grandchildren James, Justin, Emmalee and Kaylee Geis; Caroline and Amelia Sisson – all of Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her father James McGregor; her mother and step-father Jean and Ted Moore; sister-in-law Johnnie Kay Alexander.
The family would like to express special thanks to all friends and family who have supported us. The staff at Mercy Coletta Center and the caring team at Crossroads Hospice. Ray and Martha Hackney for her special angel. Michael Foster for praying over Cathey and the family just moments before she died. Her sister Dianne Wilder for her loving, caring and relentless dedication to Cathey during her final months in the hospital, rehab and back home.
Viewing will be from 10:00am to 8:00pm on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. The family will greet visitors from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday evening. Funeral service will be Thursday, February 22, 2018, 10:30am at the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel. Graveside service will be Thursday, February 22, 2018, 3:00pm at Roselawn Cemetery in Okeene, OK.
