Harold was born in Okmulgee, OK to Floyd and Rebecca Malan. He married the love of his life, Rita Prien on April 18, 1944 in Hempstead, L.I., N. Y. They celebrated 70 years of happily married life. Harold served on the USS Champlin as a gunners mate during WWII. He was an Oklahoma City Police Officer from Nov. 1947 through Feb. 1949. He worked as a landscape architect for Higdon's Nursery and Cardinal Swimming Pools. After his retirement, he took up woodcarving as a hobby and carved many beautiful birds and a complete miniature carousel. Harold is survived by his wife, Rita; daughter, Sharon and husband George Hart; son, William and wife Steffanie Malan; granddaughter, Tosha and husband Jay Smith, Amy Gibson, Grandsons Ryan Smith, Tate Smith and wife Brook and William Malan II; great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Aidan, Vivian, Rogan, Mason and Lincoln Smith; brother, Clayton Malan of California. Harold has been a member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 50 years where he served as head usher. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society. He enjoyed traveling across the country, spending summers in Colorado and winters in Rockport, TX and loved western novels. A service to celebrate his life will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 10 at Messiah Lutheran Church with interment to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
