John Castillo, 62, of Oklahoma City, OK, peacefully passed away in his sleep on January 15th, 2024. John passed away with the people he loved the most all sleeping under the same roof as him, which was always a great source of joy to John.

John was born in Altus, Oklahoma on October 18th, 1961 to Pedro “Pete” Castillo and Juanita “Janie” Casteneda Castillo. His mother passed away at an early age and his father then married Sylvia Garcia Castillo, who proceeded to raise John and his four siblings along with three more children born to her and Pete. John was raised in Altus and after graduating from Altus High School, he joined the Army at the age of 17. John served as a Paralegal in the Army from 1979 to 1986 when he earned an Honorable Discharge. Upon discharging from the Army, John moved back to Altus where he joined the family’s plumbing business and later obtained his Journeyman’s Plumbing License as well as his Contractor’s License.

John later moved to Oklahoma City where he continued to work in the plumbing field and where he met the person that he fell in love with and who he would spend the next 29 years being married to, Cheryl Renfrow Castillo. John and Cheryl always knew that they wanted to have children but were unable to do so naturally and in 2001 they received the greatest blessing in their lives when God opened the doors for them to adopt their two beautiful daughters. And when that happened, it also created the opportunity to blend their girls birth family to their own, which they have always been extremely grateful for. John retired from plumbing after he started having health problems and later became completely disabled. But John never allowed his disability to keep him from helping others and continued to be very active doing volunteer work for his neighborhood, his recovery support group, and various other people and groups. John was a member of The Fellowship of Western Oaks Nazarene Church and had a very strong support system that he remained close to through the years. But other than his family, one of John’s greatest loves was attending Oklahoma University Football Games. John and Cheryl have been season ticket holders for the past 28 years and John made it a point to make sure that his girls knew all about football and loved the game as much as he did. John was always known at games for his enthusiastic cheering and his outrageous signs that often made the TV or Jumbotron in support of his Sooners.

John is survived by his wife, Cheryl Renfrow Castillo, and his daughters, Allison Nicole Castillo and Samantha Claire Castillo, of the home; two brothers, RickCastillo and wife Bettye and Marty Castillo and wife Tami; three sisters, Mary Mullican, Julie Richardson, and Angela Tokarski and husband Timothy; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. John was proceeded in death by his father, Pedro “Pete” Castillo, his mother, Juanita “Janie” Casteneda Castillo, and his step-mother, Sylvia Garcia Castillo, as well as one brother, Pedro Castillo, Jr., and one sister, Kathryn Castillo Wiseman.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 27th, at 10:00am at The Fellowship of Western Oaks at 7901 NW 16th Street in Oklahoma City with Reverend Hardy Powers officiating. There will also be a viewing on Friday, January 26th, from 1:00-8:00pm at Buchanan Funeral Service at 8712 N. Council Road in Oklahoma City.
