Wallace Paul Johnson October 5, 1929 - March 24, 2022

Wallace Paul Johnson greeted this world and his parents Paul and Zudie Ross Johnson on October 5, 1929. The Tennessee family moved many times, living in the town of Waverly, Dover, McEwen, Nashville, and back to Waverly. He attended Waverly Central High School, where he lettered in basketball, and graduated in 1949. He immediately went to work for the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit. He was drafted and served two years in the Army during the Korean War. After being discharged in March 1953, he returned to Chrysler. In 1956 he married the love of his life, Jo Ann Wanamaker. In October 1957, he gave his heart to the Lord and has served Him ever since. In May 1958, Jo Ann gave birth to their son Michael Paul.
Wallace served the Pentecostal Holiness Church in many capacities, from the local church to District, Conference, and General levels. He served 20 years as the Christian Education Director of the Great Lakes Conference where his favorite thing was directing youth summer camps. He was a layman on the Bishop’s Council. He, along with his wife, served as National Seniors Ministry Directors, and developed a Seniors Ministries Manual for local churches. In 1989 he retired from Chrysler Management Team, and in 1991 he and Jo Ann moved to Oklahoma to be near their son Michael and his family. He then joined Cathedral of Praise Church and soon began serving as Sunday School Superintendent. He and Jo Ann also served as leaders of the Primetimers Senior Group. Traveling was immensely enjoyable to both Wallace and Jo Ann. They visited all 50 states, 6 continents, and 70 countries.
Through the years Wallace soon became known by so many as “Mr. Handsome” due to his reputation as a true gentleman, his smile and twinkling blue eyes, and his respectful treatment of others. July 1, 2021 he was presented an honorary quilt made by Oklahoma ladies of Quilts of Valor. He was chosen to go on the all-expenses-paid military Honor’s Flight to tour Washington, D.C. this April 12, 2022.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Sybil and Zudie. He is survived by wife Jo Ann, son Michael, daughter-in-law Melinda, granddaughter Ashley and her husband Ashkaan, granddaughter Aubrey, nephews Ron Lewis and David Hall, niece Sharon Hall, and many other family and friends.
